Abstract

Comparative Analysis of Field Olfactometry with Other Research Methods in the Odour Impact Assessment of Wastewater Treatment Plants Summary The aim of this dissertation entitled Comparative Analysis of Field Olfactometry with Other Research Methods in the Odour Impact Assessment of Wastewater Treatment Plants was to perform comparisons of sensory and analytical methods of odour concentration and concentrations of odorants in order to propose a methodology for odour impact assessment of wastewater treatment plants. In addition, work was to enable to deepen and extend knowledge about research methods used in odour impact assessment of wastewater treatment plants. Was studied the possibility of using the methods depending on the type of test sources, odour or odorants concentrations and meteorological conditions. Based on literature review were collected informations about the research methods used in odour impact assessment of different sources, mainly facilities of wastewater treatment plants. An attempt was made to classify them in graphical form. In the study were compared five different measurement methods used in odour impact assessment of wastewater treatment plants: measurements of odour concentration using direct (field) olfactometry with Nasal Ranger® field olfactometer, measurements of odour concentration using delayed olfactometry according to PN:EN 13725 standard, measurement of odour intensity using sensory evaluation and measurement of odorants using colorimetric methods and chromatography methods. Were selected wastewater treatment plants: mechanical-biological and mechanicalbiological- chemical. Among the wastewater treatment plants these are the most common objects in Poland.
