## Geologiczno-inżynierska ocena iłów formacji poznańskiej jako podłoża budowlanego

#### Abstract

The objective of the thesis is to present the characteristics of Poznan Clays Formation, its lithology, origin, extent of occurrence on the background of geology, geomorphology and hydrogeology. The results of physical properties tests of Mio-Pliocene clays were described in the thesis, ie. water content, bulk density, liquid and plastic limits, and grain size analysis. The expansive properties of the soil were evaluated using nomograms. In order to estimate the clays' strength as well as deformation parameters, the triaxial and oedometer tests were performed. Moreover, the results of field tests were analyzed. The values of moduli describing the elastic properties of clays have been examined in a wide range of deformation. The Bender Elements method was used in laboratory to measure the elastic properties of clays in the range of small strains. The thesis contains a description of geological history of Mio-Pliocene clays and its influence on their properties. Moreover, the parameters describing the degree of overconsolidation were determined in the thesis. The criteria of plasticity and constitutive models for soils were also described, ie. elastic-perfectly plastic Coulomb-Mohr model and elastic-plastic model with isotropic hardening (Modified Cam Clay). The thesis contains summary table of the values of geotechnical parameters of Poznan Clays Formation for selected models. Finite element method (FEM) was applied for numerical analysis of stresses, strains and displacements related to a ground-structures interaction problem. The results of computer calculations were compared, applying selected elastic-plastic models. Discussion of the results of calculations obtained using commercial FEM software was carried out. These results were compared to the values of displacements measured on a real object. At the end of the thesis, the author summarizes the tests results of Poznan Clays Formation, presents the conclusions and directions for future research.
