## The influence of workin parameters of cutting unit on the cutting energy plants requirements

#### Abstract

The main purpose of this dissertation was to find possibly the best working parameters of a cutting unit in rotary cutting machines used on small farms to collect energy plants. This dissertation depicts the influence of various factors on growing popularity of renewable energy sources such as biomass, water energy, geothermal energy, wind energy, solar energy as well as decreasing interest in mineral energy sources: coal, peat, crude oil, oil bearing sands/oil shale, earth gas. In this dissertation it is also discoursed cultivation of the most popular energy plants used in biomass production in Poland. The influence on energy consumption while cutting was described taking into consideration three factors: the linearly speed of the moving cutting unit, its rotation speed and the moisture of some selected energy plants such as: hemp willow (Salix viminalis), virginia fanpetals (Sida hermaphrodita), giant mincanthus (Miscantus gigantheus), sakhalin bistort (Reynoutria sachalinensis). The study was carried out in the laboratory post designed for examining the process of cutting energy plants using a rotary method in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Warsaw Technical University, branch in Płock. The most beneficial ranges of rotation speed of a rotary disc and linear speed of moving a cutting unit were determined based on conducted tests and final conclusions as well as the most advantageous conditions of collecting energy plants considering their moisture.
