Abstract

First the particular importance of accuracy in numerically controlled (NC) machine tools and industrial robots is highlighted, then there are reviewed the methods and devices used for the measurement and testing of accuracy. Some classification of testing procedures is proposed, and limitations of different solutions are presented. An original method for the measurement of the geometrical accuracy of NC machine tools, which uses an independent coordinate system, is proposed. The described measurement device, called Vector Bar (VB), has been built and tested for an NC lathe, both in laboratory and in industrial environment. The VB can be used for testing the accuracy of movement trajectories.
