Abstract

The aim of the thesis was to investigate both optical as well as mechanical phenomenon in the new kind of the anizotropic smart structures with a different types of birefringent fibers, which are not described in term of sensor applications. Especially, pressure sensors as well as static and dynamic strain sensors were concerned. The possibility of applications of polarimetric sensors for stress monitoring in construction elements was analysed. In order to simulate such a conditions a standard sensing element was embedded in the epoxy cylinder. The influence of external factors, including pressure, temperature and strain, on both mechanical and optical properties was analysed theoretically and experimentally.
