Abstract

The main purpose of research was to check possibilities of using analytical methods of designing information systems in development spatial databases. In order to achieve it, the attempt of modeling topographical data was carried out. Range and results of research: 1. Analysis of existing methods of designing information systems. 2. Analysis of special GIS methods. 3. Proposal of the elementary spatial relationships set required for GIS conceptual design. 4. Examples of topographical data conceptual modeling. 5. Proposal of basis for new method (notations) of designing GIS called UML GeoPlus (extension of UML notation). 6. Preliminary class diagram for topographical information system (in UML GeoPlus notation) UML GeoPlus allows to model spatial databases in easier and more flexible way. Advantages are especially visible in designing multiple representation databases and systems with many complex objects.
