## Analysis of kerosene detonation initiation process with various oxidizers

#### Abstract

Subject of this paper was to present study on the initiation of detonation in various oxidizers. Aim of this study was to initiate detonation in the pipe as short as possible and to present the occurrence of detonation in the given conditions, with different oxidizer configurations. This paper describes theoretical combustion basis with particular emphasis on detonation. Paper presents physical meaning and justification of the Hugoniot-Rankine curve. The study includes different historical models of detonation and attempts to describe these phenomena over the years, along with experimental studies, carried out in order to describe the gas detonation. The test stand has been described, along with pipes configuration and different initiators. This paper presents a description of a typical process of experiment and its results, showing the three types of initiation of detonation (initiation after wave exit from the initiator, the initiation of the wave reflects from bottom of the pipe and finally the lack of initiation). The paper contains a description of experiments in order to present the effect of different oxidizer composition on the initiation of detonation. It was found that with the same initial conditions, easier mixture to initiate detonation is with a higher percentage of oxygen in the oxidizer. Results of experiments on which the detonation velocity was examined according to the amount of fuel injected were presented. Paper presents also impact of the diameter of the combustion chamber for propagation of detonation, and the evaporation time, which is necessary to obtain the initiation of detonation. Another factor that has been tested in these experiments was initiation pressure that is required to initiate detonation. It also presents charts, which provide limits on the occurrence of detonation
