## Experiment based assessement of interlaminar adhesion of glass-epoxy composites under cyclic loads

### Ewa Janowska

#### Abstract

This dissertation has been drafted to define properties of interlaminar adhesion of glass-epoxy composites under cyclic loads. Before the experimental tests were proceeded, the theoretical part was elaborated. Some basic notions concering composites were explained, standards and tests standards were presented, in resulting with interlaminar fracture. Experimental part of the study were began to preliminary tests for three types of specimens. In order to verify the failure mode of a composite, the static tests were held. Based on theoretical studies and preliminary tests, the shape, structure and dimensions of specimens used in the studies exposed to cyclic loads, in a four-point bending tests were determined, In the structure of the specimens a polyester foil was contained, in order to initiating the interlaminar fracture. The study was performed using a specific range of loads consisting of thirteen increasing, next decreasing load cycles. After completion of studies using cyclic loads, selected specimens were also subjected to a static test, in which they were loaded until the total destruction. Subsequently analysis of the results were made. The values of the loads were estimated, at which interlaminar fracture, maximum bending moment, bending and shear stress were ocurred in the failure point. The maximum deflection of the specimen ocurring during the test was determined, strain energy release rate in the failure point was calculated. After completion of experimental work, the non – destructive tests of the composite were made – ultrasound scanning of the specimens. In the result of ultrasonic tests the image of delamination formed inside the composite was obtained. Finally, the subject undertaked in this study were summarized and conclusion from the study were drew.
