## Application of ChemCad software for simulation of an existing industrial installation and determination of the influence of key parameters on the process efficiency

#### Abstract

The aim of this thesis was the use of ChemCad software of an existing industrial installation which was preparation of synthesis gas and ammonia synthesis from department Amoniak I Zakłady Azotowe „Puławy” S.A. The system was designed in such a way to achieve conditions similar to conditions in actual industrial installation. The values of key parameters were changed in order to provide information about the influence of temperature and pressure on the yield of the process. The results are presented in tabular form. The thesis presented also a historical view of ammonia synthesis technology, like also the types of reactors used in industrial and methods of synthesis gas. The main part of this study was a description of five steps in the installation, which includes: a diagram of the installation with a list of devices and describing the settings in the program ChemCad process. Moreover, for three simulations, which were conducted successfully, the values of the various streams flow were shown in tabular form. Unfortunately, the simulation of two processes hasn’t been finished: potassium washing and copper washing. This follows from the fact that in the case of copper washing, in literature there is no exact description of the processes occurring in the reaction, and thus do not know their exact nature, making it very difficult to design simulations. The potassium washing process is so complicated that a person with a little knowledge won’t be able to design it properly in ChemCad. The obtained results were showed that the ChemCad software is ideal for simulation as simple as more complex chemical processes. However, it requires a good knowledge of the process and lot of practice in using a software program. In addition, it was shown that the reaction of ammonia synthesis determine the efficiency of the temperature and pressure. The results shown in a tabular form, that thanks to decreasing temperature and increasing pressure, the degree of conversion of reactants in the ammonia raises.
