## Valuation of applicability of renewable energy sources for the production of district heat-carriers

### Michał Mierzwa

#### Abstract

This master thesis contains overview of selected renewable energy sources, that can be used to produce district heat carriers. Using of solar energy, geothermal, biomass and biogas have been considered. The first part of thesis presents of possibilities of heat up the feedwater by installation of solar collectors with consideration of availability of solar irradiation in Mazowsze region. For the conception of construction the solar installation, mathematical model has been created. Subsequently, the economic analysis for two variants were carried out. In the rst variant, construction of new energy source to heat up the feedwater was assumed. In the second variant, modernization of either hard coal or natural gas heat plant was conducted. In the second part of thesis, heat up of feedwater in geothermal heat plant was considered. The nominal power of the geothermal system was adjusted to the hydrothermal parameters of the geothermal resource similar to the Ursus ones. Because of low temperature of water basin to heat up the feedwater, modules of electric heat pumps and absorption heat pump were used. Protability of the investment for results of mathematical model was determined. In the next part of the study, project of low-power biomass CHP plant to heat up district water was described. Mathematical model was based on the system with extraction back-pressure turbine and biomass steam boiler. The nominal parameters of work of the system have been determined. Moreover, simulation of work of the system in changed conditions was conducted. Results of calculations were used to economic analysis. The purpose of the fourth part of the thesis was conception of construction of lowpower agricultural biogas plants. It was assumed, that biogas generated in anaerobic digestion is combusted in CHP engine. The mathematical model was created for the project. Obtained results gave production data to economic analysis. Profitability of the investment in two variants was conducted. In the first variant, methane fermentation of slurry and maize ensilage was assumed. In the second, anaerobic digestion of both slurry and miscanthus giganteus was carried out. In the last part of the study, the environmental effect, that would be obtained by realization of described projects was presented.
