## Construction of set-up which generate flow like human respiratory mechanics

#### Abstract

Chronic diseases of respiratory system which run with bronchia constriction (obturation) makes serious and still growing health problems in Poland. It is estimated that mostly common, bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease (COLD) affect around 5-7 millions Poles. Furthermore, statistic data and clinical observations point to number of ill people permanently increase. Considerable grown of ethical problems with growing technical and economical problems make in vitro research more convenient than experiments on animals or limited number of patients. Due to increasing importance of aerosol researches on particle deposition in the human lungs are carried out more often. For this purpose, in vitro experimental studies and studies using a computer in silico are performed. The aim of this thesis was to build a completely new model of the respiratory system, which can be used for preliminary testing of inhalers or particle deposition studies. This model was checked for the possibility of programming the various curves tract. In addition, its work had to have as much as possible resemble of the actual mechanics of human breathing. During the design the possibility of using different models of the respiratory tract was also taken into account. After building and programming the model, a number of tests were performed to confirm the efficiency of the system. The study consisted of measuring the distribution of disodium cromoglycate in different parts of the respiratory tract. Experiments have shown that the system gives reproducible results. They are also consistent with the expectations arising from the construction of the model and common mechanisms of particle deposition.
