## Determination of noise in the passenger compartment

#### Abstract

Noise is a loud, that is annoying and harmful to humans. It has a negatine effect on concentration, comfort and can even damage a person’s hearing when it is long-lasting. Most noise heard in the cabin of any car comes from three general sources: engine noise, wind noise and road noise. The noise measurement was conducted in Alfa Romeo 159 2.0JTDM, according to the standard PN-90/S-04052 by the use of the sound level meter 2250 Light. The measurement was carried when travelling at 60 km/h, 80 km/h and 100 km/h in fourth and fifth gear with a single person (a driver) and with four people inside the car. Then, the test was conducted outside the cabin at 2000 RPM, at a standstill and while driving. The noise measurement was also taken during acceleration from 60 km/h to 100 km/h with a single person and with four people inside the cabin. The noise level was measured at a distance of 1,3 km when the car reached the given speeds of 60 km/h, 80 km/h and 100 km/h when, in the first study there was a single person inside the car, and there were four people in the second and lasted 4 minutes. The tests were also taken outside the car using the same data of speed and passengers. The noise measurement during acceleration lasted 9 seconds. The taken measurements showed that the noise in Alfa Romeo159 2.0 JTDM is higher than automakers give. The reason of this situation can be age of the car, car body leaks or exhaust leaks, loud engine noise and also the quality of tyres and the quality of the road the vehicle was driven on. Nevertheless, the noise level is within normal limits for cars. In the thesis there was also presented the diagnostic methodology.
