## Proceedings to identify a vehicle from the secondary market using diagnostic devices and visual control methods

#### Abstract

The purpose of the work is to present the vehicle identification method and to develop a model of conduct (in the form of a diagram) using diagnostic devices and visual vehicle assessment methods. Admission to the work focuses on the general topic of the thesis, presentation of the VAG group, theory related to the VIN number and general introduction to the topic of on-board diagnostics. The next part of the work discusses examples used by dishonest sellers when selling cars and presents examples of diagnostic devices used in work ranging from simple interfaces to advanced ones costing several thousand Polish zlotys. In the part related to the tests, methods of verifying vehicle compliance with the original were presented, using the example of a VW Golf V. Three diagnostic devices were used to obtain the vehicle's VIN from a car computer. In the further part of the research, the focus was on one device that best managed diagnostics on a given vehicle - it was a diagnostic device dedicated to the VAG group with VCDS software. Thanks to the device, it was possible to make static and dynamic logs of engine components and determine their exploitation. Performing static and dynamic logs was written in the form of instructions - as attachments to the work. The next stage of testing was the verification of equipment codes along with the listing of each of the codes - what it concerns and checking with the current state in the tested vehicle. As an easier way to read the codes, a small database was created along with the equipment codes for VAG group vehicles - attached to the work as Annex 6. The final stage of the tests were visual methods of assessing vehicle body parts, windows and lamps - allowing to determine if the vehicle could have an accident past. Each element contains information on how and where to look for signs confirming that the part is original - or a replacement. The thesis has been summarized with a scheme of conduct in order to carry out vehicle identification together with references, which should be done when the tested step in the vehicle matches or matches the original. Finally, the test vehicle was assessed and a conditional purchase recommendation was issued indicating the inaccuracies found in the test vehicle.
