## Evaluation of the possibilities of optimizing the charging process of electric city buses based on the energy needs of the vehicle

### Karolina Maria Wojciechowska

#### Abstract

The subject of this dissertation is the evaluation of the possibilities of optimizing the charging process of electric city buses based on the energy needs of the vehicle. We will compare the impact of standard charging systems with charging systems using the battery energy storage on the power grid. The work was divided into two parts, the theoretical part and the project part. The first part of the research work discusses the advantages of electric vehicles over vehicles with conventional drive, basic information about the construction and properties of electric buses, as well as an overview of current methods of charging electrobuses. In the further part of this dissertation, we will consider ways of supplying energy to charging stations and related problems resulting from electricity infrastructure in Poland. At this stage, we will also discuss the possibility of solving the above problem, namely the introduction of intelligent charging stations - a charging station with an energy storage. The methods of energy collection in the aforementioned magazines will be presented. In the second part of the work - the project part based on the speed profile record for the bus running on the 503 line will be built simulation model of the city electric bus, including loading parameters such as increased number of passengers during rush hour or longer route time due to traffic jams. Based on the simulations of electricity consumption, the battery package will be optimally matched, what is more, the results obtained from the simulation model and information about the length of the bus stops due to processing information about the 503 timetable will enable the selection of chargers to supplement energy in electric buses. Based on the data obtained from the simulation and knowing the parameters of the charging stations, the most optimal placement of the chargers will be developed. Then, the options for energy replenishment in urban bus batteries were compared in order to choose the best way to charge city electric buses. At this stage of the thesis, the impact of standard charging stations on the electricity grid will be determined. We will estimate how a charging station with built-in energy storage can balance the power grid. Conclusions will be drawn and we will analyze the cost-effectiveness and profitability of optimizing the process of charging the city electric bus by integrating the charging station with a battery energy storage.
