## Simulation investigation of strength of railway bogie frame Em-4

#### Abstract

This composition contains a description of simulation of strenght tests of Em-4 bogie frame (known as “Sputnik”). They have been conducted according to process concluded in PN-EN 13749:2011 standard, which contains guidelines of executing the research and also rating criteria of examined objects. To complete the tests there was a need to prepare a model, determine boundary conditions, make calculations and analyse obtained results. In the second chapter there is a report on basic knowledge of undercarriage constructions applied in railroading. The types of carriages and their frames are provided along with calculations problems. The third chapter contains description of calculation methods applied in simulation of strenght test of bogie frame. Also described load variants and calculations problem. The fourth chapter describes requirements, which have to be fullfiled by bogie frame according to norm PN-EN 13749:2011. Presented forces which load bogies. Also is described the finite element method and linear static analysis, which were used in the analysis. In the fifth chapter discusses simulation of strenght test of the bogie frame. Described four load variants and boundary conditions. Moreover conducted analysis of the obtained results for each load variant. Geometric model of the frame, which was used to complete Engineer’s Thesis was made in HyperMesh program, which lets the user to discretise the examined object, make calculations in Solver and allows to graphically display the results in postprocessor. The simulation of strength tests of the bogie frame being under the influence of exceptional loads were made by overlapping the appropriate constraints and loads compatible with standard. Summary includes an assessment of model preparation for simulation. As a result of carried out strenght tests received the stresses which occur in the frame structure. This allowed to compare them with the limit values for chosen material. Moreover, based on the results of the analysis set out suggestions of changes in the structure, which will increase strength of the frame.
