## Simulation testing of two- and three-position control

### Martyna Felczak

#### Abstract

The engineering project described in this thesis was aimed at introducing the subject and examining the operation of control systems with a two- and three-position control. The regulator signal of a two-position control has two values (1.0) and three values (1.0, -1) in the case of a three-position control. When the controlled value reaches the amount above the set value, the regulator switches off in the two- and three-position control or the output signal is set to -1 (only in the three-position regulator). When the value is too low, the regulator turns on, then the output control value is set to 1. The systems can be modified to improve the operation by adding feedback, by changing parameters, the distribution of power supplied to the system. It all depends on what we want to regulate and what effect we want. The thesis contains a detailed theoretical description of the regulator's operation together with formulas and expected waveforms. Numerous simulations were performed using the Matlab Simulink program. For each control system, block diagrams of systems have been reproduced, parameters have been selected so that the systems function properly. The diagrams were improved by a modification which relied on the introduction of additional feedbacks. In the project the following were examined: the influence of energy supplied to the system, change of parameters of individual elements contained in the system by gradual increase. Graphs were generated for each variant, waveforms were compared and control operation was tested in every possible combination. The correctness of the systems operation was checked by substituting the given parameters with the formulas. The tables summarize the measured and calculated results. Two- and three-position controls are used wherever high accuracy is not required, they are simple in construction, and thus, cheap and reliable. They are used, for example, to control the temperature of the tank or in the room.
