## Analysis of mechanical loads in the crank system of engine for the M72 motorcycle drive

#### Abstract

The thesis presents the assumptions and results of the analysis of selected mechanical loads of the engine crank system for the M72 motorcycle drive. The history of the motorcycle from the beginning of its creation, i.e. around 1938, until now has been quoted. There are described: the structure, the solutions used and the differences with the majority of motorcycle engines. It is a four-stroke internal combustion engine with horizontally opposed cylinders. It was constructed without the use of non existing then computer methods, only with the use of classic calculation methods and empirical experiences. The thesis presents the conditions for the functioning of elements of the crankset, construction principles and trends in their development. Next, kinematics of the system and forces were presented, including their plots. The gas force was obtained with use of the "Indykator.xls" program. In order to obtain the plots of inertial forces and other forces in the system, the geometry of the elements, materials and kinematic conditions of the mechanism were used. Knowledge of the results made it possible to perform strength calculations. The calculations were carried out using the classical method, according to the literature [3], [6] and by the finite element analysis on the Simscale platform. Similar results were obtained. Several load cases have been adopted, giving a holistic view of the degree of stress of the elements. The CEA analysis also examined cases that were difficult to model using the classical method. CEA calculations are more convenient due to the possibility of simulating much more complex shapes with a smaller amount of time necessary to complete them. In the literature [3], [6] approximations necessary to accelerate the calculations have been presented, which resulted in lower accuracy of the obtained results. Thanks to the received information on the locations of stresses, their size and the waveforms acting on the force elements, it is possible to conduct the analysis of the examined issue further, towards engine modification or to facilitate the construction of a new engine with the same system or similar solutions. The analysis was carried out to the extent that fulfill the requirements of the engineering diploma thesis.
