## Structure and properties of carbon fiber products based on selected elements of the Formula Student race car

#### Abstract

As part of the work titled "Structure and properties of carbon fiber products based on selected components of the Formula Student race car," an analysis of the structure and properties of related components depending on the reinforcement material used, the number of compositions and the function of fabric arrangement. The impact on storage conditions of prepregs on their usability was also checked. The theoretical part of the paper presents the most popular fabrics used for laminate reinforcement, their structure, properties, area of application and techniques for producing composite materials. The next stage focused on assessing the properties of laminates made of carbon fiber in an epoxy resin matrix made with vacuum technologies and prepregs. The research part includes conducting a statistical tensile test, on the basis of which the stress-deformation characteristics of laminates were determined, and then these values were compared with the corresponding values provided by the manufacturer. The experimental part of the work also includes an analysis of the micro and macrostructure of composite materials, which was based on for images obtained with a scanning electron microscope. The paper presents selected elements of the Formula Student racing car, which are manufactured using vacuum technology, using carbon fiber. The scope of this work is not sufficient to accurately analyze the properties of the tested types of carbon fiber samples made with the use of pre-impregnated epoxy resin technology. Consequently, an analysis of their usefulness could not be clearly defined either. Due to this, this work will be the basis for continuing research related to this issue. A larger number of samples will be performed and additional three-point bending tests will be carried out. Thanks to the knowledge gained by the author during this work, these studies will certainly be carried out more precisely and the results will be more satisfactory.
