## Research on the usefulness of ash from sewage sludge incineration as a component of cement concrete

#### Abstract

This thesis aims to study the basic properties of fly-ash from the sewage sludge incineration, coming from the “Czajka” sewage treatment plant and possibility of using it as a component of cement concrete. In result of sewage sludge thermal processing, there are created new types of post-production waste products that are not used in any reasonable way. The thesis was divided into two parts. The first presents the summary on properties of currently used fly-ash and requirements given in Polish standards related to using them in the production of building materials. Next, there was presented the process of sewage purification in the “Czajka” sewage treatment plant in Warsaw, where fly-ash, the subject of research, is created. The second part of the thesis discusses the research program and analyses the results of a study made within the thesis. The research part was divided into two stages: physicochemical research and resistance study. The physicochemical research allowed initial characterizing the properties of the analyzed fly-ash and classification, regarding the Polish standards. The chemical composition was studied, the density was marked, there was analyzed the granulometric composition, and the pozzolanic activity was examined. The resistance study aimed to determined the impact of the fly-ash on the properties of the cement mortar. The resistance tests to bending, squeezing and stretching allowed evaluating the impact of different content of the fly-ash on the cement mortar. The last chapter of the thesis is a summary of the carried research and evaluates if the examined fly-ash can be used as a component of the cement concrete.
