## Evaluation of ultrasonic transducers condition based on nondestructive inspections performed on the piece of aircraft composite vertical stabilizer

#### Abstract

The purpose of the thesis was finding a parameter that allows a quick evaluation of ultrasonic transducers condition without a need of exact parameters setting and doing any scans. First chapter focuses on describing the theoretical fundamentals. There are included information describing waves propagation and their physical properties, flaws detection and description of ultrasonic beam. Ultrasonic Testing was described – with what and how inspections are performed and how results are presented. Second chapter depicts the succeeding steps of realization of the research. The test stand, the test sample and the research procedures were presented. There was described the preliminary research, including its conclusions and results, which was done to evaluate the system possibilities before performing the essential research. There was described the essential research on the basis of which the results were acquired. Third chapter contains the results from the essential research – increments and waveforms of the signals, C-Scan Presentations and the measurements of surface areas of the made flaws. Fourth chapter focuses on the research results analysis: what kind of mistakes occurred during the realization of the research, what is the relevance of scanning resolution, how to interpret results from hardly detected flaws, which indications shall be classified as wrong ones, what kind of information does a radiofrequency signal give. The graphs of a function of transmitted wavelength were made, on the basis of which the conclusions were drawn. Fifth chapter depicts the final conclusions, due to which the thesis purpose was achieved.
