## Analysis of the functioning and organization of the public transport hub

### Tomasz Jakub Kołodziej

#### Abstract

The objective of this work was assess the functioning and the proposal for the reorganization of the public transport hub, which included three train stations: Warszawa Centralna (long distance railway station), Warszawa Śródmieście (suburban railway station) and Centrum (metro station). Assessment of the current status and variants of the reconstruction was made using the same five indicators, enabling them to compare with each other. These indicators were designed specifically for the purpose of this thesis. Indicators accounted the most important criteria, which should meet every public transport hub, that is: keeping spatial integration, good quality infrastructure, accessibility for persons with reduced mobility, ensuring the personal security of travelers and the readability of passenger information. Each of the indicators receives value from 0 to 1. The following diploma thesis has been offered three variants of solutions that improve situation in the transport node. They have been ranked In order of the degree of interference in the current construction layout (and the cost of such investment). Therefore, the option I envisaged only minor amendments such as replacement of floors and passenger information system. Option III envisaged the construction of two new tunnels that connect with each other station platforms. It was no surprise that the last solution gained the best grades, however, surprising were two other facts. First, each of the variants, regardless of potential financial expenses, which it brings, was radically improve the situation in the transport hub. This proves how little funds and time is required in this case to increase the comfort of travelers. The second surprise may be the fact that the indicator number 3 (responsible for adapting the public transport hub for persons with reduced mobility), receives the largest value not for option III, but for option II. This was due to the way of calculating this indicator. Perhaps this shows an incorrect construction of this indicator. The unquestionable conclusion is that the selected public transport hub needs immediate radical changes.
