Abstract

This thesis applies to interference, that is one the most important phenomenon occurring in optics. However, due to a very wide range of this branch, the thesis focuses only on the small fragment of it, which are fringes of equal inclination. The goal of this engineering thesis was to design and construct a compact system for demonstration of circular fringes of equal inclination. This system will be mainly used during the lectures in optics at the Faculty of Physics, Warsaw University of Technology. Demonstration of fringes should be possible all over the place, so the system must be characterized by high mobility and have a relatively small size and light weight. The first part is a theoretical description of the issues related to interference. General principle of interference is presented and two major types of fringes are described. Additionally briefly discussed is the phenomenon of coherence of light. Further the idea of interferometry is presented, together with its applications and examples of several interferometers. At the end the thesis describes the Pohl interferometer being a base of the elaborated model. Experimental part is the documentation of all the steps taken during the realization of the subject. Starting from testing various sources and materials in the laboratory, by creating a computer model of the system, and ending with the construction and presentation of the finished demonstrator. All assumptions have been successfully completed and the constructed system performed its main task and is ready for use.
