## Secondary manufacturing operations in processing aluminum semi-finished products for superplastic forming

#### Abstract

Assessment of the SPD technology for manufacturing of short rod-type elements made from aluminum alloy EN AW- 5754 with an ultra-fine grained structure was the goal of the B.Sc. thesis. The main object of this thesis are secondary manufacturing operations of technological process. Obtained rod elements will be destined for further manufacturing process of thin sheets for superplastic forming. The first part of the thesis presents a general outline of manufacturing UFG bulk material and gives a list of operations which are used to be performed in the SPD processing technology. The new manufacturing sequence has been taken into consideration which assumes preforming secondary manufacturing operations after each main SPD operation. These secondary methods lead to the production of an appropriate geometry of slugs for the main operation, which is Equal Channel Angular Pressing with two turns, called mtECAP. The results of using the proposed method of performing the secondary manufacturing operation of open die extrusion called EXTR were described and analysed. The second part of the thesis is mainly a report of the work done. It contains a detailed description of the course of open die extrusion operation stages, which are sequentially performed at elevated temperature after each of ECAP pass. The typical SPD processes has to be repeated several times. The plan for aluminium alloys assumes a six passes from which at least 4 were completed in the thesis. This experimental program gave it possible to gather technological data for the full description. Settings for utilized workstations, machines and tools, control and monitoring equipment for warm open die extrusion are presented. The collected experimental data were analysed and the results were presented in the form of drawings and diagrams showing changes in the parameters of the operations carried out. Based on the gathered experimental data, conclusions on the subject of the tested manufacturing process has been drawn. The two series of short cuboidal bars made of aluminum alloy with a number of 19 and 30 pieces were manufactured. The cross-sectional dimensions of the square bars were 8×8 mm2 and the length was about 44mm.
