## Study of physicochemical properties of crude oil and content of chlorine compounds in crude oil

#### Abstract

The aim of the project was to establish procedures for preparation of crude oil samples for the content of inorganic chlorides and organically bound chlorine in crude oil analysis. In the study was used three kinds types of crude oil from three different sources having different physicochemical properties. The work included literature review and experimental part. The literature review included an analysis of the crude oil composition and its selected properties, the crude oil desalting, the reasons for desalting, and the methods for carrying out this operation. This part also characterised distillation of crude oil, explained purpose of crude oil distillation, derived products and their boiling range. The last chapter of the literature part describes chlorine compounds present in crude oil, their characteristics, the factors influencing content of chlorides and the consequences of their presence in crude oil. This section included a description of methods for the determination of organic and inorganic chlorides too. Experimental part addressed assumptions set prior to the test that corresponded to the purpose of the project. In this part, was characterised materials and the research methodology. In addition, was determined basic properties of the tasted samples. The research was conducted in order to identify the possibility of chlorinated inorganic compounds to remove in laboratory conditions from crude oil samples desalted in a refinery. According to the obtained results, it was concluded that the most effective method of removing inorganic chlorine compounds from crude oil is a method with separator uses, due to the highest clearest phase separation and the best reproducibility of experimental results was obtained.
