## The influence of the method of ceramic laminate surface preparation on the strength of the adhesive joint in multilayer printed circuit boards

#### Abstract

The main purpose of the work was to determine the optimal method of surface preparation for bonding two ceramic laminates, forming a printed circuit board. The work consists of a theoretical and experimental part. The theoretical part presents the characteristics, types and methods of making printed circuits. Methods of gluing printed circuit boards and theories of adhesion are described. Experimental tests were carried out as part of the experimental part. These consisted of surface condition assessment, shear strength tests, climate tests and thermal shock tests. After the tests, a visual assessment of the joints was carried out. The aim of the research was to select a joint with the highest strength properties and resistant to climatic conditions. The joint tests performed simulated exposure to the effects that the PCB may be subjected to during its operation. Plates with a surface obtained by various methods were tested, including brushing, pumicing, abrasion, blackening and corona discharge. The properties of the obtained surfaces were evaluated by measuring the roughness and the wettability test. As a result of the optical evaluation of the vertical deflections performed, it was observed that the blackened joint was distinguished by resistance to the performed tests, without showing delamination at any stage. The joint had proper adhesion to the substrate both after climatic tests and after the test in tin. The preparation by pumicing is different, where the destruction of the joint occurred after a thermal shock. After analyzing the obtained results, it was found that blackening, as the only method of surface preparation, showed resistance to the conducted tests (climatic, tin test) and was characterized by the best resistance to shear stress.
