## A microcontroller as an object controller of railway traffic control devices

#### Abstract

This work concerns the use of a microcontroller as an object controller of railway traffic control devices on the example of a point machine. The progressive development of technology allows us to replace existing solutions, often using large-scale mechanical and relay systems, much smaller and providing a higher level of security of computer devices. The work describes the construction and use of microcontrollers from the AVR family. One of the ways of programming microcontrollers is also presented. In order to approximate the control process of the change-over drive, the structure and operation of the point machine were analyzed and the points controller system was described. An example of such an points controller was the N86F system. N86F sytem is a relay control system for three-phase drives. A Siemens S700K/KM point machine is a more widely described point machine type. This is one of the point machines used on the PKP PLK S.A. After analyzing the above issues, a points controller with a microcontroller was designed. In addition the microcontroller was programmed to receive signals controlling the position of the switch, signal about the state of the insulated section, signal for establishing the course and signals forcing the change of switch position. The microcontroller, after processing the received signals, allows sending a control signal of a point machine. In this work proposes the implementation of such a solution in the form of modifying the N86F setting system. The dependency functions from the previous control circuit in the N86F system have been replaced with a suitably configured microcontroller. In order to verify the created project, a physical model was made, which was based on the ATB development board. This set allows you to test many solutions using a microcontroller, because in addition to the microcontroller itself is equipped with a number of useful peripherals such as: LCD display, 7 segment display, buzzer, buttons or LEDs. A series of tests were carried out on the test model, the results of which were consistent with the expected results.
