## Conceptual design of a drum hoist

### Michał Jerzy Górski

#### Abstract

The subject of this thesis is a conceptual design of a drum hoist. Electric drum hoists are being widely used in storage and assembly halls, workshops and mines, but also aboard helicopters and off-road vehicles. Of course, numerous uses go hand in hand with a large number of available versions and power outputs of these appliances. The main focus of the thesis are drum hoists designed to work in halls, having trolley system allowing them to move along a load-bearing beam. The scope of work includes: introduction to the subject of drum hoists, market overview, definition of design objectives, calculations of parts of the device and creation of their CAD models as well as an assembly drawing of selected subassembly and two manufacturing drawings of selected parts. Trolley system was treated as a potential candidate for project continuation, being proposed only as a schematic model compatible with designed part of the machine responsible for lifting and lowering weights. Maximum load of the hoist was set to be 500 kg and lifting height to 24 m. While designing the device, stress was put on achieving high durability -calculations were carried out assuming continued operation for 5 years under the maximum assumed load - and the possibility of relatively easy disassembly and reassembly of the device, which facilitates maintenance and contributes to further increasing the safety of the machine. The first step was to carry out introductory calculations of the drive system. Having determined values of moments and rotational speeds in respective locations allowed to choose an electric motor and a planetary gearbox, and further to design cylindrical gearbox and the drum. The proper relative alignment of all the device's components was ensured by a designed housing made of welded sheets, adjusted to the required profile of the supporting beam.
