## Research of selected optical and light elements for lighting of a single-track vehicle - a bicycle

#### Abstract

The subject considered in this thesis is the concept of construction of a laboratory set, which in the future can be used to conduct research of selected optical and light elements for lighting of a single-track vehicle – a bicycle. In the first chapters the requirements for lighting of single-track vehicles will be characterised. The following chapters contain the description and characteristics of sources of light, as well as the discussion regarding the principles of their operation. Further, the legal requirements, provisions and regulations, valid in Poland and in European Union, regarding lighting of single-track vehicles, particularly bicycles. In order to accomplish the goal of this thesis and present the methods of collecting photometric data, the latest developments and trends in the field of single-track vehicles lighting were presented. The last chapter contains the presentation of methods of collecting photometric data. The set of bicycle lamps can vary and be selected depending on the source of light. The scope of research was limited to several selected lamps. Halogen, LED and incandescent lamps were included. The preparation of a laboratory set for taking measurements with the currently available goniometric method as well as the concept of measurement and research procedure with use of the aforementioned set will be described. The next chapter will present the results of the measurements of luminous intensity originating from lamps, as sources of light, from different pre-set measurement angles. The results obtained will be presented in the form of a directional grid and cross section of luminous intensity of the selected angle in the whole measurement range. This chapter contains also the chromaticity charts and optical spectrum. As a part of the thesis a new set for photometric research of one-track vehicle lighting will be established, which set can be used in a motor vehicle electric equipment aboratory or as an educational material for the students of the Faculty of Transport, IEPS and IBET specialities. Due to the importance of the safety of cyclists the lighting function becomes a key one for their vehicles. Above all, it reduces the risk of an accident for the cyclists. It also allows the cyclists to be more visible for other road traffic participants.
