Constrained Application Protocol based services in Bluetooth Low Energy networks

Abstract

Constrained Application Protocol is a new application protocol designed with Internet of Things in mind. It is lightweight and supports the REST model. This paper focuses on ways of implementing CoAP based services in Bluetooth Low Energy networks. It contains an analysis of a method based on the 6LoWPAN standard, which allows transmission of IPv6/UDP/CoAP packets in BLE networks. This paper also proposes an alternative method revolving around representation of BLE networks as CoAP resource trees. This method is then used to implement a Smart Health service backed by a cloud.

Constrained Application Protocol to niedawno wprowadzony, przystosowany do potrzeb Internetu Rzeczy, protokół aplikacyjny. Cechuje go lekka implementacja, niewielki rozmiar wiadomości oraz wsparcie dla modelu REST. Ta praca skupia się na sposobach realizacji usług opartych o protokół CoAP w sieciach Bluetooth Low Energy. Przeanalizowana zostanie metoda transmisji pakietów IPv6/UDP/CoAP w sieciach BLE, oparta o specyfikację 6LoWPAN. Zostanie także zaproponowana alternatywa, polegająca na odwzorowaniu sieci BLE jako drzewa zasobów CoAP. Metoda ta zostanie użyta w realizacji przykładowej usługi Smart Health wspieranej przez chmurę obliczeniową.
