#### Abstract

Summary of the work Title: Analysis of methods of testing layflat bindings The initial part of the work presents the division of bookbindings due to the technology of connecting the insert to the cover. The next criterion of division is the the type of cover. The next part is an analysis of the technology of connecting the book block with the cover with glue. Next, the parameters of the glue and glues used in the production of perfectbinding: EVA, PVA and PUR were characterized. The next stage was the analysis of test methods for glued binding in terms of binding strength (Pull Test and Flex Test) and aging of the glue (due to the effects of temperature, light, radiation, humidity, oxygen, chemical and biological factors) and resistance to weather conditions, especially temperature. The mainl part of the thesis is the part whose aim is to review and analyze the methods of tesing layflat bindings and the concept of openness, factors on which depends and the genesis of openness research. The basic issue of this part is the concept of the openness of the binding, which was defined as the tendency of the insert cards to arrange in the open binding in relation to horizontally spread covers. Studies on the readability of prints gave rise to studies on the openness. The openability of the binding is a parameter that not only affects the readability of the text, comfort of use of the binding, but also its durability. The research allowed to determine the course of the layflat in individual places of its opening, and it was determined that the binding shows maximum openness when it is half open, and the reduction of openness is symmetrical towards the initial and final cards. Factors that may depend on the layflat of the binding are: the type and properties of the paper, the method of connecting the insert cards, the method of connecting the insert to the cover, the type of the cover, reinforcement of the spine, spine profile, the thickness of the binding and its width. Layflat is also a parameter that allows determine the quality of the binding. So far, several methods have been developed that can be used to determine the layflat parameter. They are presented in chapter 7. Among others, these are methods that determine the layflat based on the projection of the insert cards on horizontally arranged covers, determining the distance between the tops of the open binding cards and the height of these tops from the location of the cards in the spine, the ratio of the torque - stands up when clamping the binding spine, to the binding weight. Most of them are not free from defects. None of the methods, even those that are considered objective, can be used to test all types of bindings. So there is still no method that can be considered universal. The next chapter proposes a method of comparing the layflat bindings.
