#### Abstract

The title of engineering thesis is: "Project calculation tread brake for a four-axle freight wagon SS-class". The purpose is to develop a procedure methodology for the selection of the braking system of a freight wagon intended for international transport, class SS. Therefore, there was prepared a calculation scheme which allows to determine the characteristic parameters chosen for the braking system. In the thesis, the theoretical part provides an overview of the various braking systems, in the first chapter are shown a short historical overview. The second part is calculation project along with the analysis and conclusions. The second chapter presents the classification of modern braking systems. It includes descriptions of the construction of various brakes and presented how they work. Presents informations regarding the mechanical and electromechanical brakes. Shortly describes their main elements too. The third chapter presents other, less common types of brake systems. Among other things, it describes the principle of the electrodynamic or aerodynamic brakes. The title of the fourth chapter is the calculation design of brake for freight wagon SS class. This chapter presents the stages of design calculations tread brake freight wagon. By solving the equations of motion received the theoretical wagon braking distance. Then, the effect of speed and mass on the braking distance is examined and the calculation of the percentage share forces. In the sixth chapter chosen some of the parameters of the brake gear, appointed a full range of gear ratios depending on the load, because the system uses valves weighing. This allows you to maximize adhesion, which shortens the braking distance and thus increase secu-rity. In the next chapter attention was paid to the analysis of the braked mass percentage of the wagon. Following the UIC 544-1 norm set theoretical weight braking and analyzed the efficacy of inhibition the braking system. Chapter eight presents problems of the handbrake (parking). Chosen the parameters, and then, according to UIC 544-1, was made to check if the car can be immobilized using parking brake on the track with an incline of 35 ‰. The last chapter contains a summary with conclusions
