## Comparison of absorbed dose in FFDM and CESM

#### Abstract

The aim of my work was to measure the doses in Full Field Digital Mammography and Contrast-Enhanced Spectral Mammography and to compare them. Thus my research was divided into three parts: first included measurements for phantoms without an external measuring system, in the second part I have used thermoluminescent dosimeters, in the last part I have used a semiconductor detector. In order to obtain phantoms to imitate human tissue, I have used plates made of polymethyl methacrylate - PMMA. The following thicknesses were examined: 20, 30, 40, 45, 50, 60 and 70 mm. For each part of my research I have counted the percentage dose increase, comparing FFDM and CESM. The average dose increase was included in the range of 30 to 70 percent. The biggest increase was measured for the phantom thickness of 40 mm, the smallest for 70 mm. After the measurement using TLD dosimeters, the distribution of dose on the surface of the phantom can be observed. Uneven distribution is visible - the biggest dose is absorbed by the central region of the phantom and the region closest to the patient's chest. The smallest dose is received by the region that is the furthest from the patients torso. Therefore, the Heel effect can be observed. An external measuring system, in this case - the semiconductor detector - confirms the credibility of the measurements of the mammograph's internal measuring system. In addition to that, the results of my work correspond with the results of other researches conducted in similar conditions. The obtained findings are also consistent with EUREF's guidelines and acceptable dose ranges for different phantom thicknesses.
