## Design and construction of galvanometric microforce tester

#### Abstract

The purpose of the work was the design and implementation of a digitally controlled force setter of small value, with a resolution of the order of micronewtons. It is a device necessary to study the so-called micro-force sensors, too sensitive and with too small a measuring range to use e.g. standard weights. A magnetoelectric system was chosen as the appropriate actuator, which allowed to generate a moment proportional to the flowing current, acting on the moving pointer, which served as the arm of the Setter. To control the actuator, a popular Arduino compatible platform was selected, the Arduino Uno microprocessor board, which is called "The heart of the system." Through the I2C protocol, it communicated with a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter, generating the desired voltage. The book "Arduino 65 practical projects" by John Boxall was used to write a dedicated program in C language. The microcontroller board had to be additionally connected to the universal board, potentiometer, control buttons and LCD display. After placing the elements in a standard housing, the magnetoelectric system was connected to the analog-to-digital converter. It was additionally placed at the end of the movable arm, which facilitates testing using a setter. Preliminary characteristics of the setter were collected using a high resolution magnetoelectric analytical balance made by Radwag. Based on the initial characteristics, the range of given forces was obtained, and their value depending on the control voltage set from the DAC. After entering the coefficients obtained by linear regression into the program code, a ready device was obtained. As part of the work, sample tests of the micro-force sensor with an amorphous core type 2714A, developed at the Sensors and Measurement Systems Plant, were carried out using the developed Setter. Measurements of the change in sensor inductance under the influence of the setpoint force from the Setter show compliance with literature data.
