#### Abstract

This work concerns the issue of noise occurring in urban space. From the second half of the nineteenth century, along with the development of industry, urbanization and industrialization, the nature of the city's acoustic space has changed. With the development of social sciences, more and more importance is attached to protection against the effects of excessive noise. In Poland after 1989, and then with the entry into the European structures, we were obliged to comply with Directive 2002/49 / WE and apply the restrictions contained in the Act on the Law of Environmental Protection. It was started to pay attention to the effects of the noise phenomenon. The requirements for surface acoustic environment assessment have been introduced. for all new construction projects. In cities over 100,000 Therefore, acoustic maps are introduced, the updating of which is foreseen it's every 5 years. In the diploma thesis the main attention was paid to the evaluation of the acoustic climate of the section of the E 65 railway line (Polish numbering: No. 9) within the city of Legionowo. About 30,000 are registered in a separate research area rail vehicle journeys per year. In order to study noise and assess its effects, the algorithm of the Dutch method, which occurs in the CadnaA program library, was used. The mathematical model of the research area was based on the most important input data: selection of the computational index, type of building, type of noise source, number and types of tracks, the number of trains divided into individual categories listed in the directive and a simplified numerical terrain model. The factors adopted on the basis of field tests (data obtained from the Voivodship Inspectorate of Environmental Protection) allow to calibrate the calculation model and minimize the margin of computational error. In addition, in this work, the classes of trains moving on the tested railway line were differentiated, in particular a fragment of the railway traction crossing the city of Legionowo. An equal aspect of the work presented is the method of noise suppression by specialized constructions, their efficiency, choice of parameters, proper location and economic aspects. Due to the fact that the applied methodology is used in various countries and according to general good laboratory practice. Based on the model, sound propagation maps for day and night time were made. In these maps, exceeded permissible levels in some places. Therefore, two methods of sound attenuation were compared (acoustic screen, track attenuator (3dB)). The analysis showed greater efficiency in the use of acoustic screens. Acoustic barriers applied in the study reduce the noise level to 15 dB, while attenuators to 5 dB.
