## Conceptual project of an ICE engine operated trigeneration system based on the example of system applied in Multifunctional Office and Conferencing Center in Minsk in Belarus

#### Abstract

Bachelor Diploma Thesis titled “Conceptual project of an ICE engine operated trigeneration system based on the example of system applied in Multifunctional Office and Conferencing Center in Minsk in Belarus” written by Monika Bińkowska consists of three parts. In the first part, the issue of Combined Cooling, Heating and Power (CCHP), so-called trigeneration, was presented. The decisive factors of implementation trigeneration systems, based on two operation strategies: TDM and EDM were described. Furthermore, advantages of applying trigeneration with comparison to the conventional heat and electricity generation and cogeneration were pointed out. Subsequently, two divisions of trigeneration systems were made: first one based on prime mover used (gas turbine, Stirling engine, fuel cell, organic Rankine cycle, reciprocating engine) and the second one based on cooling technology (absorption chiller, adsorption chiller, centrifugal chiller). Exploitation principles of such systems and overview schemes were depicted. Additionally, the author gave a description of a work principle of absorption heat pump, which is often used in trigeneation systems. This section ends with review of support mechanisms for trigeneration technology introduced in the world, with the main focus put on European countries. The second part of the thesis provides a closer look on analyzed trigeneration system that will be applied in Multifunctional Office and Conferencing Center in Minsk, Belarus. At the beginning, the installation with a review of devices used, was described. Afterward, assumptions were discussed and mathematical dependencies, by which the calculations were made, were presented. Further a review of working media flowing through the devices used in analyzed model, centered on their parameters and dependencies needed to calculate their mass flows, were set out. The third section comprises analysis of exploitation of a trigeneration model within a year. The average demand for power, heating and cooling in particular months of Multifunctional Office and Conferencing Center was presented. Next, author analyzed changes of the trigeneration system machines’ load factors and the dynamics of system’s fuel demand (natural gas) within a year was depicted. The last part of thesis is the summary of results obtained during trigeneration system’s analysis and conclusions. Attention was drawn to assumptions made and their inadequacy. At the end, solutions that might help to gain a more precise image of issue of exploitation of trigeneration system were presented.
