## The analysis and the evaluation of the small enterprises management on the example of the service company in food and catering sector

#### Abstract

The B.A. thesis concerns the analysis and the evaluation of the small enterprises management on the example of the service company in food and catering sector. The subject was chosen due to the author’s interest in the management process of the small enterprises, and also, due to the fact that the author considers starting her own small enterprise in the future. The main purpose of the thesis was to analyse the specific character of the small enterprises management and to evaluate the process with the use of the example of the chosen company. The literature, on which the author bases the theoretical part of the thesis, refers to the following terms: the management processes, the specifity of the management, the strengths and the weaknesses of small enterprises and the solutions to some arising problems.The purpose of the study was to identify the arising problems in management, and the suggestion concerning solving them for the needs of the company development. The thesis is the summary of the gained experience and a measure undertaken to broaden the knowledge of small enterprises management. In the first chapter, small enterprises are described. Their definition is the introduction to the topic. The characteristic of small enterprises is presented as the basic subject of the market economy. Then, there are described: the meaning of the team work in small enterprises, organisational culture, and innovation. The author also underlines the importance of the good organisation of the team work and the cooperation between its members. These two aspects have advantages not only in the personal relations, but first of all, as far as work effectiveness is concerned. Also, organisational culture may shape the activity of the enterprise either in positive or negative sense. The analysis was prepared on the basis of the reports of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) and the Polish Statistical Office (GUS). In the description of the environment, the role of micro- and macro-environment are provided, and also, the author stresses the role of the competitive environment and the strategies which may help small enterprises to achieve and maintain the high position on the market. The second chapter expands the topic of the small enterprises. There are the explanations of the most important terms, the characteristics and the functions of the management process, which are: planning, organising, deciding, conveying, motivating, and controlling. The final subchapter concerns the specific character of small enterprises management. To demonstrate it better, the characteristics of small and big enterprises are contrasted with each other. The third chapter is empirical and includes the event study analysis and the evaluation of the small enterprises management on the example of the service company in food and catering sector. This part of the thesis characterises the company, its environment, its organisational culture, the analysis of the management process described in the second chapter. The study conducted for the purpose of this thesis helped to identify the problems related to the company management. Finally, the suggestion concerning solving the problems, the action plan, the schedule of the plan, and possible costs, and profits are presented. In the final part of the thesis, there are works cited, both literature and virtual sources, which were helpful during writing. Also, there is the list of the tables and the figures provided.
