#### Abstract

The thesis „Preliminary design of disk brake for four-axle coach passenger wagon, for motion at maximum speed of 200km/h” describes the issue of brakes used in rail vehicles. The work is divided into knowledge review and design part. The project of high-speed passenger carriage used disk brake as wall as magnetic track brake. Additionally, a preliminary handbrake was also designed. The second chapter introduces the construction and the basis for the functioning of various types of brakes used nowadays in rail vehicles. As well as information regarding tread brake, disk brake, track brake and electrodynamic brake. Additionally apart from principle of operation, the chapter illustrates particular subassembly brake system. It also mentions the materials of which the components were constructed. The third chapter describes the principle of operation of pneumatic system, which is responsible for friction brake control. It also presents the construction of particular elements of the system. The fourth chapter concerns the main part of the thesis, the desing of the disk brake for passenger carriage. On the basis of selected parameters and elements of the system, a series of symulations have been conducted. Through the differential equation of motion it was possible to establish the theoretical braking distance of the wagon for the designed brake. Course of calculation showed that this is a necessity to equip the vehicle with magnetic track brake. The fifth chapter analyzes the influence of respective variables on braking distance. All the symulations were conducted using the Mathcad software. The next chapter estimates the braking performance by determing the braked weight. The estimate was conducted in accordance with standard UIC 544 -1. Both cases, a wagon eguipped only with disk brake and a wagon equipped also with magnetic track brake were considered. Furthermore, the seventh chapter establishes the basic handbrake parameters, which also substitutes as a parking brake. It is intended to prevent the vehicle from rolling down in the case of a standstill on a sloping track. The summary includes conclusions with analysis of conducted research.
