Spectrum sensing methods for cognitive radios

Abstract

The idea of cognitive radio is presented and an overview of existing spectrum sensing methods is given. One of the methods is implemented in Matlab. For this purpose, an algorithm based on covariance matrix: MME (Maximum-minimum eigenvaue) was chosen and was initially tested by Matlab simulations. Next, the FM receiver was prepared and programmed using hardware of type SDR (USRP B200) connected to computer. Parameters of the receiver were software-defined with GNU Radio Companion program. Signals from the FM radiophony range and Air Traffic Control (from Warsaw-Ok˛ecie Airport), received as described, were used the verify the effectiveness of the MME algorithm.

W pracy dyplomowej przedstawiono idee˛ radia kognitywnego oraz dokonano przegla˛du i opisu metod wykrywania zaje˛tos´ci widma radiowego. Zaimplementowano jedna˛ z opisanych metod w ´srodowisku MatLab oraz przetestowano jej działanie. Do implementacji wybrano algorytm oparty na macierzy kowariancji: MME (Maximum- minimum eigenvalue). Poddano go wst˛epnym symulacjom w ´srodowisku Matlab. Nast˛epnie zestawiono i zaprogramowano odbiornik radiowy, przy uz˙yciu urza˛dzenia typu SDR (USRP B200) podła˛czonego do komputera. Parametry odbiorcze zdefiniowano programowo przy u˙zyciu oprogramowania GNU Radio. Odebrane w ten sposób sygnały z zakresu radiofonii FM oraz z cz˛estotliwo´sci komunikatów kontroli lotniczej lotniska Warszawa- Ok˛ecie posłu˙zyły do okre´slenia wydajno´sci działania algorytmu MME.
