## Numerical analysis of the dynamics of the water outlet gate works

### Rafał Michał Marciniak

#### Abstract

The theme of presented study is an analysis of the dynamics of the water outlet gate works in terms of his dynamic properties and directly associated phenomena. As a starting point for analysis of work water outlet gate system, has been used the assessment of the role and effectiveness of the chamber (surge tanks) gravity damper, which eliminates oscillating movement of the water gate. The entire analysis process of the dynamics of the water outlet gate works has been based on results obtained from CFD simulations. Geometric models building for individual studies were based on a simplified vertical lift gate while maintaining similar dimensions presented in the real hydraulic structures. Due to the fact that the CFD method is an approximate method, has attempted to supplement all the obtained numerical results appropriate analytical models, which may be the source of strict solutions of studied phenomena. The whole building of analytical models to verify the results of the CFD simulation has been used to present advantages and disadvantages analysis water outlet gate system. Independently from tests carried out of analytical verification of the results, conclusions in terms of quality has been based fundamentally on a comparative analysis, eliminating the error possibility of the same method CFD or software used for calculations. In addition to the basic purpose of this study, has been brought closer the general concept of the need to use shock absorber systems and potential sources of the vibration observed during water outlet gate system operation. On the basis of the available literature in the field of water outlet gate system, as the regulatory systems, in this study has been made deductive identification of added mass phenomena (hydrodynamic mass) as an integral part of the dynamics of water outlet gate systems description but omitted in the classical mathematical model. The correct modeling of phenomena interaction be-tween solid objects and the fluid medium using CFD simulations allowed to indicate the possibility of occurrence parametric vibrations and self-excited vibrations generally absent in the analysis of regulatory systems. Presented in this study building procedure for geometric model of the gate, discretization of the calculation area and the procedure for obtaining the same results with CFD simulations on the background of the corresponding mathematical models, allowed to identify the possibility of the integration incomplete analytical model with the CFD method in order to create a new efficient method for individual testing of water outlet gate systems. As a final result of the research of work the water outlet gate systems and assess the role of chamber (surge tanks) gravity damper on the dynamics for the whole system, has been obtained full identification damping properties of the present type hydraulic shock absorber and has been indicated appropriate improvement opportunities.
