## MIMO Techniques in Sensor Fields

#### Abstract

In this thesis, we investigate Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. We use MATLAB to simulate the MIMO system with phase shift keying (PSK) modulation including additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). Particularly we are interested in sensor fields, where the number of transmitting antennas (sensors) is greater than the number of receiving antennas. Such systems are simulated at different Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) values and different numbers of transmitting and receiving antennas using M-ary PSK (BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK, and 16-PSK) modulations. Symbol Error Rate (SER) was a criterion of performance of MIMO system. Many MIMO detection algorithms are tested: channel matrix pseudo-inversion, Matching Pursuit, M-best Matching Pursuit, Vertical-Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (V-Blast). Also, we consider the optimal algorithm, sphere decoding, to reduce the SER. The availability of Channel State Information (CSI) at the receiver end in MIMO system has been studied, the simulations have been conducted using MATLAB to measure the performance degradation when the channel is imperfectly estimated at the receiver in MIMO system and compared to the case of perfect channel knowledge at the receiver. Furthermore, we investigate the influence of the correlation of channel paths.
