Evaluation of burning process in the Renault K4M engine powered by using mixtures of bioalcohols

Abstract

The main purpose of this thesis is the analysis and the evaluation of mixture of bioalcohols and traditional fuel burning process with intension of defining their utility for power supply of the spark ignition engines. The key task of this thesis is constructing the model of the examined engine in AVL Boost program (engine model was based on Renault K4M H616 engine) and afterwards test simulations making. The thesis consists of introduction, four theoretical chapters, chapter devoted to summary and conclusions based on carried analyzes and the chapter containing literature list. First of essential chapters contains the main informations about bio alcohols used for power supply of spark ignition engines, all based on the literature. In this chapter motivations for searching for alternative fuels are shown and also advantages and disadvantages of using ethanol as main alternative fuel are described. What is more chapter contains comparison of ethanol and typical gasoline. This part of the thesis also contains European Union legal regulations on the use of bio alcohols for the spark ignition engines power supply. The next part of the paper is consists of spark ignition engines operation parameters description and presentation of theoretical burning process for engines with gasoline power supply. In the same chapter can be found description of controlling of such power unit with its impact on burning process and other work parameters. Third essential chapter is devoted to the analysis of the received results from the simulations in AVL Boost program. Results of the study are presented in attached diagrams and tables. In the third chapter can be also found properties of the analyzed engine and its model made in the computer program. The issue of the financial profitability of bio alcohol mixtures used for engine power supply can be found in the fourth chapter. The last one consists of summary and conclusions based on research results analysis. Results ending this thesis are the answer for the problem presented in the introduction. They are giving the answer for the question about utility of bio alcohols used for power supply of spark ignition engines and their impact on the burning process parameters and entire engine working operation.
