## Experimental investigations of fatigue of carbon-epoxy composites

#### Abstract

The subject of the paper is a general description of the structure, material properties and fatigue strength of carbon-epoxy composites. This paper is a research project aimed at the study of the properties of carbon-epoxy composites. The composites are widely used in engineering and the significant role is played by structures strengthened with unidirectional rowing and therefore the paper concentrates on the research of material properties of this type of composites. The focus was placed on examining tensile strength as it is the main parameter defining the strength of a composite. The range of research included the preparation of a stand for producing samples from carbon-epoxy composites, the production of samples from composites for planned tests, the preparation of a stand for tests as well as the examination of the static strength and fatigue strength of carbon-epoxy composites. Unfortunately, however, not all planned tests could be carried out, due to the breakdown of a fatigue-testing machine high-cycle fatigue limit of composites was not measured, only the low-cycle one was successfully defined. The materials used in the tests are the materials commonly used in aviation industry. To produce samples carbon rowing of Tenax Company and Ep 53 epoxy resin of Zakłady Chemiczne “Organika – Sarzyna” having required certificates were used. The paper focused on methodology of performing fatigue testing of samples within static strength and low-cycle tensile fatigue strength.
