## Development of a traffic model for the selected area

#### Abstract

Traffic models are widely used because they allow to obtain a full picture of the functioning of the transport system. Many types of models can be distinguished, including mathematical, descriptive, analog and physical models. The diploma thesis uses a traffic model which is a mathematical model, which describes the operation of a given system by means of mathematical-logical relations. The aim of this thesis is to develop a traffic model for the southern part of the city of Chełm. To accomplish it, the following works were carried out. Chapter 1 describes the modeling process and elements of the transport system traffic model. Computer tools supporting the modeling process were also presented. PTV Visum was also described, by means of which a traffic model was made. Then, in chapter 2, the traffic model is described in detail, and the division of roads in Poland was defined, which was necessary to identify the input data. It explains exactly what the demand model is and identifies the sources and destinations of the journey. The next, third chapter, identifies the input data to perform a traffic model, such as road types and the determination of the number of trips in the analysed area. In Chapter 4, the elements of the network model and the demand model have been distinguished in turn. It specifies exactly what the transport network is and how it should be developed. It was explained in detail how the analyzed area was designated. The network was then mapped through nodes and segments. In order to accurately represent the reality, torsional relations have been introduced for all nodes and areas have been connected to the network. In connection with the development of the demand model, travel motivations were defined and the travel share for each of them was taken into account. The traffic-forming potentials were determined in order to determine the traffic generated and absorbed. Then a spatial distribution of traffic was prepared using a gravitational model, which is based on the dependencies of production and attractions of the region, as well as the function of distance between centroids. Based on the obtained data, traffic distribution to the road network was obtained. Using the PTV Visum program, the traffic rafter was generated and the distribution of passenger flows into the transport network was visualized. Moreover, in Chapter 5, an experiment was carried out with the closing of selected segments of one of the city's main roads, which allowed to verify the correctness of the model's operation. Based on the study, adequate conclusions were drawn, and the result of the diploma thesis is a traffic model for the southern part of the city of Chełm.
