## Application of thermobalance to investigate adsorption equilibrium

#### Abstract

A significant increase in carbon dioxide emission related to human activity and a growing awareness of the risks associated with it motivate humanity to take action to reduce it. Adsorption is one of the promising technologies that can help solve this problem. One of the key issues of adsorption technology is the appropriate selection of the adsorbent, which requires knowledge of the adsorption equilibrium. In this work, the adsorption equilibrium for carbon dioxide on 13X molecular sieves was tested. The equilibrium is presented in the form of adsorption isotherms for three temperatures: 30, 40 and 50°C. The tested adsorbent came from the large-volume production of Soda Mątwy plants (Ciech S.A. group). Analyses were carried out in the TG 209 F1 Libra from Netzsch. The results of thermogravimetric measurements were developed in such a way as to obtain adsorption isotherms. The obtained isotherms are type I according to the IUPAC classification. The comparison of the results of own and literature research shows a different shape of isotherms. It should be noted that the first measuring points on the isotherms developed in this work were obtained for lower pressures than in the case of literature studies. In addition, the comparison of measurement methods in both cases implies that the results obtained in this work are more accurate. It is also necessary to consider the possible differences in the quality of sorbents used in literature and own studies, as the reason for the visible differences in the compared results.
