Doctor of philosophy and engineer, a specialist in ventilation and air conditioning, indoor air quality, and indoor environment creation. A graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Sanitary and Water Engineering: 1984 specialization - Thermal, Health, and Air Protection Devices; 1986 specialization - Atmospheric Protection Systems and Technical Meteorology. In 1995, after defending his thesis, "The process of migration of air pollutants in buildings in conditions of stochastic disturbances," he obtained a doctoral degree with honors in  Environmental Engineering. In 1986 he became a member of the Ventilation and Air Conditioning Department staff. His duties cover both teaching and research. He is the promoter of several dozen masters and engineering theses. In 1998, the Minister of the Interior and Administration gave him distinction for the supervision of the awarded master thesis. He performed many organizational functions at WUT: Disciplinary Spokesman of the Rector for Students, Member of the Senate Committee for International Affairs, Member of the University Council for Education Quality, Dean's Department Representative for Education Quality Assurance System. He is the author of over 230 scientific and technical publications. In 1991, together with prof. Teresa Jędrzejewska-Ścibak initiated a series of biannual conferences, "Internal Air Quality Problems in Poland." Dr Sowa actively works as a reviewer for many scientific and scientific-technical journals. He worked as an expert in evaluating applications and implementing grants in various EU research programs (FP6, FP7, H2020). He has been a participant in many Polish and international research projects (also as their leader). 

He was a member of many international conferences' scientific advisory committees (including Healthy Buildings, Indoor Air, CESB). In 2013, he was awarded the REHVA Fellow honorary title by the European Federation of Heating, Ventilation, and Air-conditioning Associations. The Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology awarded him many times for research, didactic, and organizational achievements. As a co-author of the book "Intelligent Buildings," he received the Award from the Minister of Science and Information Technology (2004). In 2018, the collective work under his scientific editorship "Nearly zero-energy buildings" won an award in a competition organized by the Minister of Infrastructure. In 2012, the Minister of Environment awarded him a badge of honor for Environmental Protection and Water Management.  The President of the Republic of Poland awarded him with the Silver Medal for Long Service in 2009.  He received the Medal of National Education. in 2019.

Hobbies: sailing (as a crewman, officer, and captain on board of sailing yachts and tall ships, he visited nearly 140 ports in 14 countries).
