Zbigniew Kusznierewicz, PhD Eng graduated from a primary school and the Wojciech Kętrzyński High School in Giżycko. Then he studied at the Faculty of Fine Mechanics (since 1995 Faculty of Mechatronics [FM]), Warsaw University of Technology [WUT], from which he received MSc Eng and PhD degree in 1970 and 1980, respectively. At FM, WUT he was employed as a Probationary Assistant (1970-1971), Assistant (1971-1973), Senior Assistant (1973-1979) and Assistant Professor (1979-1988). For two years he operated a private business „Tribos” (1988-1990), then returned to FM, and since 1990 he has been an Assistant Professor. As far as his didactic activity is concerned, he tutored classes in Fundamentals of Design of Precision Devices, supervised many large projects as well as BSc and MSc theses. His scientific activity includes realization of national and EC grants, as well as projects realized for the industry; he was a manager of 5 projects, took part in other 11 projects concerning rolling and slide bearings (related to design and resistance to motion), as well as in the field of micro/nanotribology. He elaborated over 20 publications for scientific journals, all related to rolling and slide bearings as well as to micro/nanotribology. He received the following awards and distinctions: Golden Order of Merit (1996), two Awards of the Minister of National Education and Sports: 2nd degree Team Award (2003), 1st degree Individual Award (2004), and two 2nd degree Team Awards of the Minister of Sports and Tourism (2010, 2011). Personal interests: aero-hydromechanics, photogrammetry; he has a passion for regatta yachting: he was a Vice-President of the International OKD Sailing Class (1992-1993), a Secretary of the Sports Port Authority of the Polish Yachting Association (1995-2005) and the leading coach of the Olympic Gold Medalist in Atlanta 1996.
