He is a 1978 graduate of the Faculty of Electronics and Information
Technology, Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). He was subsequently awarded
his doctoral degree in 1985 and habilitation in 1990. In 2004 he was awarded
the title of full professor. Recipient of French state scholarships, for 11
months he conducted research in the Laboratoire de Spectrometrie Physique at
Université de Grenoble (1981) and in1987 he was, for 11 months, a post-doctoral
staff researcher at Laboratore de Physico-Chimie de Materiaux Luminescant
University of Lyon. From 1993 to 2007 he spent more than three years in France
in LP-ChML University of Lyon and in Laboratoire de Materiaux Inorganiques
University of Clermont-Ferrand as visiting scientist and visiting professor.
Currently, he is the director of the Institute of Microelectronics and
Optoelectronics, WUT.
His research activities cover the problems of producing, modelling and characterizing
active media and photonic structures for laser technology, fibre optics,
integrated optoelectronics, visualization, radiation detection, technology of
light, sensors and photovoltaics. A significant portion of his scientific
practice consists of spectroscopic laser study of the impact of multi-ion and
multiphoton processes on the optic parameters of various types of luminophores
and active media. Recently, this study has focused on the research of such
active media as planar or optical fibre waveguides, structures with spherical
symmetry, nanocrystals as well as ceramic and hybrid materials.
