Prof. dr hab. Piotr Tatjewski. Professor of technical sciences, ordinary (tenured) professor at the Warsaw University of Technology, head of Control and Software Engineering Division at the Institute of Control and Computation Engineering (before 1994: Institute of Automatic Control) at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology of WUT. In 1996-2008 director of this Institute. Vice-Dean for Research of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology and member of the WUT Senate Commission for Research for the terms 2012-2016 and 2016-2020.

Research interests of professor Tatjewski concern control structures and algorithms of technical processes, mainly multilayer control and advanced control algorithms, especially predictive control algorithms based on linear and nonlinear models, including fuzzy and neural network modeling. He is also interested in on-line process optimization under uncertainty and in decomposition-coordination in optimization and control methods for large-scale processes. He was involved in several research projects concerning control and optimization of industrial processes and water distribution networks. Recently, projects including research and industrial cooperation concerning, inter alia, control of ventilation systems and heat pumps. He worked at Technische Universitaet Hanover, at The City University, London and at The University of Birmingham, England. In 1994-1997 he was coordinator and contractor of the large EU TEMPUS project "Information Technology for Control and Decision Support - Curriculum Develpoment". He is author or co-author of over 55 journal papers and book chapters, over 80 published conference papers and 8 books (4 in English), including the monographs "Advanced Control of Industrial Processes" edited in 2007 by Springer-Verlag London and "Iterative Algorithms for Multilayer Optimizing Control" written together with Prof. M.A. Brdys and edited by Imperial College Press/World Scientific Publ. in 2005. Awarded 5 times the Prize of the Polish Ministry of Higher Education for outstanding research achievements. From 2003 member of The Committee of Automatics and Robotics of PAN (Polish Academy of Sciences), chairmen of the Section of Automatic Control Systems of this Committee since 2015. Member of PolSPAR (The Polish Society of Measurement, Automatic Control and Robotics), vice-chairman of the Automatic Control Committee of PolSPAR. Member of the Scientific Council of the System Research Institute of PAN since 2011, Vice-chairman of the Council 2015-2018. Member of the EUCA Administrative Council (EUCA - European Union Control Association) from 2007 to 2011. Member of IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Technical Committees TC 5.4 (Large Scale Complex Systems) and TC 2.1 (Control Design). Member of the Polish Central Commission for Scientific Degrees and Tilles for the term 2017-2020 (representing scientific discipline Automation and robotics)..
