Studies of different radionuclides sorption from liquid radioactive waste onto SiEA-KNiFe ion exchanger

AbstractThe objective of this work was study of different radionuclides sorption onto novel ion exchanger based on silica modified with transition metal hexacyanoferrate and ethanolamine (SiEA-KNiFe). Influence of temperature on the different radionuclides sorption was studied in order to determine changes of the distribution coefficient for Cs+, Co2+ and Sr2+ sorption. In this work effect of competitive ions like: Na+, Mg2+, K+ and Ca2+ on the sorbent effectiveness was evaluated. Concentrations of radionuclides in solution before and after sorption were determined with gamma spectrometry. High distribution coefficients for different radionuclides removal in seawater solutions together with beneficial physicochemical characteristics make these sorbent promising technology for nuclear waste treatment.
