Analysis and evaluation of the EU member states development coherence– selected social and economic aspects (2000- 2012 period)

Abstract

The paper presents results of EU countries grouping into homothetic clusters, according to their similarity in terms of socio-cultural and techno-economic development level recorded in different periods (2000, 2005, 2012). Advanced statistical methods have been applied to assess the EU states clustering structural movements within the period analysed. The clusters’ representatives have been appointed, also with the use of statistical methods. The analysis of change in time of most differentiating variables has been also presented in the article. These semi-dynamic approaches can more adequate supporting of energy transition forecasting processes observed within 2000-2012 period, e.g. in climate or energy polices design including their key interactions with societal and economic environment. The article clearly displays the intra- EU Member States heterogeneity in respect of scientific research performed.
